Tennis enthusiasts are looking forward to making use of their new clubhouse at the Cattistock Lawn Tennis Club after a donation from the Palmers Brewery Fund helps complete the refurbishment.
In 2014 the Club applied for various grants and ran several fundraising events to begin the a program of refurbishment. Both courts were re-turfed last year. This was followed in 2015 with a program to rebuild the hut that has served as a clubhouse for over fifty years. An application to the Palmers Brewery Fund secured a donation of £500 which helped to complete the work.
‘The Club has been in existence since the early 1940s,’ said Club Chairman Sally Wood.
‘It was created by some local lads under the guidance of village Rector the Reverend Deane and headmaster Mr Hodgson. The courts have always had an ‘interesting bounce’ but following a succession of wet winters, they needed some extensive refurbishment.’
‘Thanks to the support of the Palmers Brewery Fund, our other sponsors Barry Kay, WDDC Leirsure Development Fund, Cattistock Community Fund, Frome Valley Parish Council and local builders, Peter Thirne and Phil Evans, we now have a fantastic new clubhouse to use during the summer.’
‘I am delighted that the Palmers Brewery Fund has been able to support the Cattistock Lawn Tennis Club,’ said Cleeves Palmer, Palmers Sales & Marketing Director.
‘The courts are a great asset to the community that are enjoyed by many people of all ages. I know the Club have more plans to develop the facilities further and I wish them all the best in the future.’
Club members meet on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons and the club’s two courts are available for use by members outside these times on a first come, first served basis. New members are always welcome, more details at cattistocktennisclub.co.uk .
