Award-winning pub re-opens after floods

The New Inn at Cerne Abbas, Dorset Dining Pub of the Year, has re-opened its doors after floods swept through the village a week ago.

‘Everyone pulled together to help in the clean-up,’ said landlord Jeremy Lee, who was judged national Landlord of the Year by the Good Pub Guide.

‘We had only recently re-opened after a major refurbishment when the flooding happened. It was heartbreaking, but we were determined not to stay shut for long. I’d like to thank local people and my brilliant staff for all their support and hard work in the last few days.’

The New Inn is owned by Palmers Brewery of Bridport. Tim Woodrow, Palmers’ tenanted trade director, said: ‘Palmers Brewery made a substantial investment in refurbishing this historic pub, which re-opened last month with 13 bedrooms instead of six, more space for eating and drinking, a new kitchen and a new toilet block. It’s one of the biggest single refurbishment projects we’ve ever undertaken.

‘Jeremy and his team have been fantastic and we’re pleased that this very special pub is open and serving food and drink once again.’
