Palmers Brewery support apprenticeships

Palmers Brewery in Bridport are encouraging their pub landlords to consider taking on apprentices training at Yeovil College.

Tim Woodrow, Tenanted Trade Director at Palmers, said: ‘Taking on one or more apprentices is an ideal way to recruit keen young people. Now is a good time because the government has invested considerably in apprenticeships to make them even more relevant and worthwhile.

‘Palmers is working with Yeovil College to support these opportunities. All of us in the trade know how important it is to find and retain good staff.’

Apprentices learn on the job, with day release to study at college, earning at least £95 a week.

Peta Fraser, Faculty Director Business and Hospitality at Yeovil College, said: ‘We offer a range of NVQ courses that are highly relevant to the pub trade. These include professional cookery, hospitality supervision and leadership, housekeeping, customer services, food and beverage service and hospitality services.

‘With 76% of employers saying that apprenticeships provide higher overall productivity and 80% saying that they reduce staff turnover, they are a good option for many businesses, not just pubs.’

If you are interested in finding out more about employing an apprentice, please contact Yeovil College direct. Ring 01935 845 392 or email Veeda Crichton,  You can also visit the apprenticeships website
