Congratulations to Gary and Karen Needs at The Axminster Inn and Gail and Jo Kane at the Greyhound Inn Beaminster – joint Palmers Brewery Cellar Champions for 2024.

Each year Palmers licensees are subjected to a rigorous audit process by our in-house Cellar Technical Team headed up by Martin Abery and Ed Mamanta, who score the pubs on their cellar management and quality of their draught dispense from cask to glass. This year we have a tie for top place so the two pubs will be sharing the trophy, amazingly this is also the 5th time that Gary and Karen have won the trophy.

Five times winner Gary Needs said, “We are very proud to be cellar champions for the 5th time in a row. Palmers audits are very rigorous and it feels like the bar has been raised each year, but we really welcome Martin & Ed’s visits and the standards they expect help us to raise our game.  We want every pint that goes out to be perfect and the audit process helps keep us on track to achieve this.”

Draught beer and especially cask conditioned real ale is one of the unique selling points of the British pub and managing a cellar and serving consistently excellent draught ales, lagers and ciders is at the heart of being a successful licensee and ensuring that customers keep coming back.

Presenting the award, Emily Palmer Ramus, Palmers CEO said, “Both winning pubs scored a perfect 100 on two of their audits, which is an amazing achievement, it takes real dedication to maintain this level of excellence and we are privileged as a company to have licensees who are committed to maintaining these high standards. We know it is so important to ensure customers can visit our pubs and know that they will always get a great pint.”
