Palmers Brewery Community Fund - a Year in Review

Palmers Brewery Community Fund - a Year in Review

A year since the relaunch

A year ago in May, we relaunched the Palmers Brewery Community Fund.  Partnering with Crowdfunder, we aim to support local not-for-profit community organisations.

Our Community Fund works to support the local community and charitable organisations that help keep West Dorset one of the best places to live, visit and explore. Not-for-profit organisations local to Palmers can apply via Crowdfunder for up to £2,000 to support their projects.

The Palmers Community Fund has supported nine Crowdfunder projects in its first year, match funding over £15k of public pledges. In total, these projects have raised over £100k for local community initiatives and charities.

CEO, Emily Palmer Ramus, said

“Over £15,000 has been donated this year to local good causes through the Palmers Brewery Community Fund. We were able to add to the initial £10,000 donation with the help of the Palmers team at events like our Beer Festival and Annual Wine Tasting as well as from customers through our 10p a pint donation on seasonal ales and the Biles Project postcards. Crowdfunder have been brilliant at helping us support a wide variety of local causes.  Match funding means that the impact from each £2,000 donation is amazing.”

Preparing Bridport Bells for the next 100 years

St Mary’s bells themselves were recast and retuned just after World War I, but the rest of the equipment has been in need of some TLC. The team called on the support of local people, to allow them to continue ringing the bells for services, national events as well as local weddings and similar.

Keep Bridport Youth and Community Centre Open

Being home to countless youth and community groups around the area, the centre at Bridport was a hub for so many in the local community. With funding cuts and risings costs, they started their Crowdfunder. The generosity of our Dorset town came together in a huge way.

Precision Football Arena (PFA)

Keen to build an indoor, state of the art football facility for local community use, friends Ian, Tom and Jamie set up their Crowdfunder to do just that. They received an amazing response and have managed to provide a space that is well used by local people of all ages.

Queenie – one of Bridport’s favourite sculptures

Located over the river at Palmers Brewery, the ‘stalking dog’ was modelled by Greta Berlin as part of the Bridport Sculpture Trail. Queenie was voted the most popular sculpture, the money raised will pay for her to be recast and become a permanent exhibit on Palmers Weir.

Appeal to provide Colfox school students with outdoor seating

Colfox students pitched their ideas to teachers in a bid to improve the school. More outdoor seating came out as a priority for the students, who needed £5,000 to provide the proposed seating.

Their Crowdfunder was successful, raising over £5,000 and with plenty of nice new benches outside in time for the warmer weather.

Martinstown Cricket Club enhancement

Martinstown Cricket Club intended to improve their club’s visitor experience for both cricket players and others passing the club. They envisaged the best way to do this was add a patio where customers could enjoy the outdoor space without being on the pitch, as well as match supporters and the youth teams that make extensive use of the ground.

Their Crowdfunder has been very successful so far and they hope to lay the patio in the new year.
