Marquis of Lorne at Nettlecombe installs a Defibrillator with support from the Palmers Brewery Fund

Nettlecombe has now got a defibrillator at the Marquis of Lorne. Locals have been learning how to use it in an emergency with South West Ambulance Service Responder, Kate Fisher.

Locals raised over £1500 towards the defibrillator and licensees Tracey and Steve Brady applied to the Palmers Brewery Fund for the balance of £660 needed to finalise the project.

The defibrillator is externally mounted so that it is available 24/7 to anyone who needs it in an emergency. The unit is also on a national database so that anyone phoning 999 can be directed to their nearest defibrillator. ‘We love the Marquis because it is a little bit far from the madding crowd,’ said Tracey, ‘but with so many people coming here to enjoy the unspoilt countryside we felt that it was worth investing our time in raising money for a defibrillator.

’As part of the package the ambulance service will be running training courses at the pub so that people can learn how to use this life saving equipment. We are also very appreciative of Peter George Electrical who kindly installed the cabinet.’

This is the third defibrillator that has been supported by the Palmers Brewery Fund, with units already installed at the Bridport Arms at West Bay and the Anchor Inn at Seatown.

Palmers Brewery Fund was established to support local charities and initiatives. Awards are made twice a year. The deadline for applications is 1 May and 1 November.
