Young sailors benefit from sales of Dorset Gold

Young sailors are benefiting from record sales of Palmers Dorset Gold. 5p of every bottle or pint sold goes to the Chesil Trust, a Dorset charity that enables young and disadvantaged people to enjoy the thrills of sailing. In the last year sales of bottled and draught Dorset Gold have raised £7,430.70, for the charity, 30 per cent more than the year before.

Palmers Dorset Gold has achieved cult status in its home county in the last few years. Bottles are sold in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, home of the Chesil Trust and part of the venue for the London 2012 Sailing events. When Prince Charles visited the sailing academy recently, Team GB sailors Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison persuaded him to launch their new boat by pouring a bottle of Dorset Gold over the bow.

Sales of Dorset Gold in bottles are up 33 percent on last year. In addition, sales of all Palmers’ bottled beers are up 20 percent overall.

‘The weather hasn’t exactly been “gold” so far this summer, but these figures show how important the bottled beer sector has become,’ said Cleeves Palmer, sales and marketing director at the Bridport-based brewery.

‘Palmers has a long history of raising money for good causes through beer sales and has raised many thousands of pounds over the years. This year we are looking at a big handout to our selected charities.’

Palmers offer four of its fine ales for sale in 500ml bottles. These are:

Dorset Gold, a refreshing and thirst-quenching golden premium ale (4.5% ABV).
Palmers 200, this popular premium ale (5.0% ABV) was described by beer guru Roger Protz as ‘a finely balanced blend of malt, hops and quenching citric fruitiness.’ Originally brewed to mark the brewery’s 200th anniversary, sales of this ale contribute to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Palmers Best, a full-drinking, well-balanced beer (4.2% ABV).
Tally Ho! a strong, nutty, full strength dark beer (5.5% ABV).

Palmers’ bottled ales are available in selected pubs and independent food shops, Palmers Wine Store in Bridport and online at www.palmerswinestore.com They can be purchased singly or in mixed cases of eight or 12.
