The George Chideock - Jamie and Amy prepare to depart

Almost a decade at The George

Jamie Smith and Amy Day of The George, Chideock, step down as pub business owner.

Jamie has been a pub business owner at The George Inn, Chideock for almost a decade. Having worked for the previous incumbents, Steve and Emma Smith, Jamie wasn’t ready to leave The George, so he applied to take the pub on himself in 2014. With fantastic people skills and a proven track record in hospitality, it was a no-brainer for Palmers to partner with Jamie.

Building up a strong reputation quickly at the pub and a great rapport with customers, Jamie was joined later by Amy. Continuing to develop the business and put their own stamp on it, the government threw a spanner in the works when COVID hit. The decision was made to temporarily close pubs.

Not to be disheartened, Jamie and Amy remained positive. They rallied around the local community, offering support where they could during such a challenging time. October 2020 brought some happy news for the team, as they welcomed their son Myles to the world.

Juggling pub business ownership and family time is always challenging, therefore Jamie and Amy have decided to concentrate on their family and step down from The George. We are sure the local community and customers from further afield will be very sad to see them go!

Everyone at Palmers would like to thank Jamie and Amy for all their hard work, dedication and everything they have done to develop the great reputation of The George. We wish them all the very best for the future.
