Palmers buys Thimble Inn, Piddlehinton


Palmers Brewery of Bridport has bought The Thimble Inn in Piddlehinton from owners Norman and Anne White. The picturesque, thatched pub nestling by the River Piddle was bought for an undisclosed sum in a private sale. The Thimble is a Grade II listed building built around 300 years ago with many ancient beams.

The Old Swan pub in Toller Porcorum failed to sell at auction when there were no bids that met the reserve price of £165,000. The auction, which took place in the village hall on Thursday 16 December 2010, was conducted by Nigel Jones of Chesterton Humberts and property agent for the owners, Palmers Brewery.

Palmers Brewery are aiming to make a significant investment improving two of their most popular pubs, The Anchor Inn in Seatown and The New Inn in Cerne Abbas. The Bridport brewery has submitted planning applications to rebuild the kitchen and toilets at The Anchor and carry out a substantial refurbishment to The New Inn.

Palmers Brewery, owners of the Old Swan at Toller Porcorum, are to lift the beer tie on the pub when it comes up for auction next month. ‘Palmers have listened to comments from the Save Our Swan group who feel that a tie would impede a sale.

Palmers Brewery, owners of The Three Cups in Broad Street, Lyme Regis, have been asked by West Dorset District Council and English Heritage to provide more detailed information about development plans for the site. The request for additional material is part of the process of preparing for the next public consultation and subsequent planning application.
